Pre-surgical blood work gives us a window to look inside your pet's body and make sure all of its organs are functioning correctly, and to make sure that your pet can handle the anesthesia. The anesthetics we use are the same that are used in human medicine, and they are very safe.
Pre-surgical blood work makes the anesthetic even safer. Even apparently healthy animals can have serious organ system problems that cannot be detected without blood testing. If there is a problem, it is better to find out before it causes anesthetic or surgical complications.
Pre-surgical blood work is recommended for all animals, regardless of age, since it makes any surgical procedures much safer.
To avoid having to wait, schedule a 10 minute appointment a couple of days (up to 2 weeks) before the procedure. We perform a quick blood draw and have the results prior to your scheduled procedure.
